Mass for Migrants

St Peters Basilica, Vatican City

The issue of migrants is important for our world today because there are millions of people rejected from their homes because of war, oppression, and political instability or looking for a better place to live, and we are called to be a refuge for them–to open our hearts and show Jesus’ love. The Mass for Migrants service lets the migrants know that people care for them and that even for them Heaven is accessible. In this service, the Pope talks about the least ones: people who are in poverty and abandoned by society. He is quoting Matthew 25:45, which states, “He will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me’”. Jesus has called us to look after the “least ones”–those who are not necessarily looked after out of a kind heart. We can help migrants by donating money through organizations like World Relief or World Vision or even by a simple prayer. Other ways we can help is by providing services to migrants such as running errands with them; carpooling to school or work; practicing English; playing in the park with the children, etc. These are just a few ways we can provide relief to migrants and help them feel like they have a place in this world.
