Warsaw Rising Museum

The museums in Warsaw are so well done. The fourth museum that we visited was the Warsaw Rising Museum which is about the Warsaw Uprising of 1944. The Warsaw Uprising was a major underground resistance effort during the summer of 1944 in which the Poles tried unsuccessfully to get the German army out and regain control of the city. One thing that stuck with me was a 3D movie we watched, called City of Ruins, that was just six minutes long but very impactful. It showed the scale of devastation inflicted upon Warsaw by the Nazi Germans during WWII. The city was totally leveled and what was once home to 1.3 million people in 1939 was home to 900,000 people in 1943, and to a mere one thousand people in 1945. Most of the destruction of the city resulted from the Germans’ revenge for the uprising against their brutal rule.

this is actually from a different museum, but shows the symbol of Polish resistance
