On July 23rd, we drove 30 minutes southeast of Interlaken to the village of Grindelwald. Our plan was to park in a lot right next to a gondola and take it up the mountain to hike around and take in the views. This was one of the hikes recommended to us by our American friends that we met in the Dolomites. Unfortunately for us a lot of other people had the same idea, so the parking lots were completely full! We considered just heading back to Interlaken, but ended up finding some street parking about a mile away from the gondola down a pretty steep hill, so we just started our hiking from there instead!
The gondola took us from Grindelwald (elevation of 3400 feet) up to First (elevation of 7100 feet) where we took in the stunning views by completing the “Cliff Walk”, which is a platform sticking out from the cliff that some might call inadequate (the platform, not the cliff…the cliff is plenty adequate…some might call it over-adequate). After completing the Cliff Walk, we were going to hike to a lake, but there were some very ominous black clouds that threatened to rain on our parade, so instead we decided to take the gondola back down and hike back to our car instead. With every passing day, no matter the setting or the weather, we are falling more and more in love with the alps!
Wow! Stunning views…the fondue looks delish!!
We stayed in Grindelwald when we were in Switzerland. Frank and Frankie wanted to ski. My mother and I went up the Gondola to the ice caves and glaciers. Thought the scenery there was so beautiful all around. So fun to see photos of the area again.
That’s so neat you guys were there! Glad we could provide a path down memory lane. We would love to ski there.
It was very yummy! Wish we could meet up with you guys again somewhere…
So fun to see all your great pictures and to hear about the awesome adventures. By far my favorite picture is the one of you and Anya. What a great great shot!
Thanks Darcy! Credit to Findlay for the great camera work, and credit to Anya for holding me up so I didn’t feel like I was about to fall.
