Interlaken, Little Thai, and a very wet night

After driving through Liechtenstein, we arrived in Interlaken on the 22nd for a three-night stay. Interlaken means “between lakes” and it’s easy to see why it’s named that when looking on a map as it is located on a four-mile wide stretch of land between the Brienzersee and Thunersee lakes. Driving through this area of the world is amazing with all the mountain peaks and lakes and towns built into the hillsides. I can’t seem to go more than five or ten minutes without pointing out some view I think everyone needs to see.

Interlaken itself is a really cute little town. Our first night there we had by far the best Thai food we’ve had in a really long time (called Little Thai). It was such a great surprise! The food tasted so authentically Thai and it was fun to talk a little with our server, who was from Bangkok and to give her a big “khaawp khun khrap” (thank you) at the end of the meal. On our walk back to our apartment, which was about a half mile, we got caught in an enormous downpour. We had a great time running and splashing our way back, and I may have accidentally also emptied my whole water bottle in William’s face during the frolic.

a popular restaurant called Cafe de Paris
local art: “Everything will be fine” or “It’s going to be okay” in German and Portuguese–love the encouraging message from a child!
the Aare River runs between the two lakes and through Interlaken and has a beautiful blue color
quick stop during a rainstorm…this was actually before our Little Thai feast and the rain got much much worse after
we didn’t find great coffee in Interlaken (which turned out to be a Swiss theme), but we really enjoyed the setting of this cafe in Interlaken called Velo. The owner has his personal bicycle collection on display…I think there were about eight bikes in total attached to the walls
