Cruisin’ on Ha Long Bay

One of the visits with the Moes and Mr Cox was to Ha Long Bay, where we went on an overnight cruise. The night before the cruise, we stayed at neat hotel in the town of Ha Long. The whole town, including the hotel felt deserted, probably due of the lack of Chinese tourists, but there was so much construction, which made us think they must be preparing for huge crowds in the upcoming years.

The cruise was really great. The staff was really nice and the ship was very comfortable. There were quite a few activities, including squid fishing, hiking, swimming, and early morning Tai Chi. Sadly, we didn’t catch any squid (one of the staff members did, but seemed shocked to have caught one!). The food was also delicious! We were served lunch and dinner on the first day, and breakfast and lunch on the second day. Ha Long Bay is incredibly pretty, which earned its position as one of the seven nature wonders of the world. We all had a great time!

The Moes are so thoughtful; they picked up a couple cakes for us in Ha Long (the night before our cruise) to celebrate our birthdays for the year! We enjoyed them for dessert that night and breakfast the next morning!

Tourism in Ha Long Bay was way down due to Coronavirus concerns (since the border to China was closed). Ha Long itself was like a ghost town and we had the hotel mostly to ourselves!
