My brothers and I put a lot of time into practicing the piano when we’re home (back in Seattle) so a goal of this trip has been to listen to music all around the world and visit the birthplaces of some famous composers. We’ve visited Chopin’s and Beethoven’s birthplaces (in Warsaw and Bonn, respectively), and recently in Salzburg we saw Mozart’s birthplace and residence. They have been turned into museums and display some of Mozart’s original instruments and letters he wrote to his wife and kids. He was born in 1756 and started composing music at age six. He wrote his first symphony at age eight and travelled all over Europe playing music with his sister Maria Anna (nicknamed ‘Nannerl’.) Since I love music so much it was really neat to see where a famous composer was born and lived.
