Innsbruck, our final Austrian visit (for now)

After Cortina, we spent two nights in Innsbruck, Austria. This was our fifth time entering Austria this summer due to the shape and size of the country and its central location within Europe. I didn’t realize before this trip that Austria actually borders eight countries, six of which we’ve now visited this summer (Germany, Slovakia, Slovenia, Italy, Liechtenstein, and Switzerland) and two last summer (Czech Republic and Hungary). When we’re not driving to a city in Austria as a destination, we seem to be driving through it to get somewhere else! Thankfully it’s a really pretty country with some delicious coffee. Alas, Innsbruck would be our final Austrian visit for this particular travel adventure.

We didn’t plan much in Innsbruck aside from just strolling around, enjoying the views, and going to our 11th Lindt store of the trip. The city is probably best known for its winter sports, having hosted Winter Olympics in both 1964 and 1976, but it’s also a great place to visit in the summer. One of the most interesting sites is the Goldenes Dachl, or the building with the golden roof built by the Emperor Maximillian in 1500. We had a very relaxing couple of days here resting our legs after hiking in the Dolomites and getting ready for the Bernese Alps!
