I love Florence. It’s very pretty. It has pretty sights and yummy food. My favorite meal was the pappardelle pasta in a wild boar sauce with wild boar chunks. We ate this meal at Trattoria Zà Zà and that was my favorite restaurant in Florence.
Florence was VERY hot. Every day was around 100F. We did homeschooling in our apartment to stay cool. The homeschooling that we did was math, Italian on Duolingo, handwriting, and Florence homeschooling. Findlay learned and then taught me about Dante. Dante was born in 1265 and he was expelled from Florence in 1302 and he died in 1321. He was expelled because he was accused of corruption. Dante wrote a very long poem called The Divine Comedy.
Since my mom said I did handwriting so well, I earned an extra scoop of gelato! At dinner we celebrated and my mom and dad told my brothers why I earned an extra scoop of gelato. Everyone earned an extra scoop of gelato for doing something extra special.
Also in Florence we walked up to the Piazzale Michelangelo to see sunsets over the city. There were people trying to sell us things. Someone tried to sell my mom flowers and we said no thank you but they were so pushy and annoying and he tried pushing it at her stomach until my dad said we don’t want it. What we should’ve done was just taken it and thrown it away.
We saw a lot of paintings at the Uffizi. They were huge. We also saw a statue called the David at a different museum and that was also huge.
We walked A LOT in Florence. It made my legs very sore and kind of strong. It was very hard to do all that walking with my teeny tiny legs (compared to William’s). We walked 10-13 miles a day!
Hey Keegan, guess what? You’re huge.
Hi Keegan, thank you for writing a great article like this. You write SO WELL! I am so glad that you keep learning while you’re traveling. The only thing that makes me upset is someone who tried to sell flowers to your mom and pushed her stomach?! It is NOT right. She must be polite because she’s so nice. Don’t even take it if you don’t buy it. I guess maybe you could consider to write about the tips you’ve learned to get rid of the pushy street vendors when you don’t want to buy things from them? I’d like to learn any tips from you!
By the way, what is Piazzale Michelangelo? Is that the plaza or square where the great artist, Michelangelo, being remembered? Can you tell me more about it? I simply love Michelangelo. I got to visit his special exhibit in MET Museum, NYC, last year and his work is magnificent!
Hi Mrs Ruan! Piazzale Michelangelo is a square named after Michelangelo at the top of a big hill with a really pretty view! We walked up there two nights in a row to see the sunset! It was really pretty and it was hard to do all that walking in a super hot place. We got to see Michelangelo’s art in the Uffizi and his paintings were huge! It was cool that just one person could do all of that work.
Thank you so much for more information about Pizaazale Michelangelo! I bet the sunset must be gorgeous to take you guys walk all the way up on a super hot day! I’m so glad that you got to see Michelangelo’s work and indeed it is totally mind blowing to learn that he did all the art work.
p.s. Calling me Ching-Ching is totally fine with me!
Thank you for sharing your ideas and impressions! I hope you continue to see and experience great places as you move on to central Europe. It sounds like you really earned that extra scoop of gelato with your handwriting and knowledge of Dante as well.
