After our safari, we spent a week in Zanzibar. We’d planned to spend six nights but wound up spending seven nights because our flight to Rome was delayed by 19 hours. We agreed that we wouldn’t really call that a delay…more like a cancelling/rescheduling of the flight (without telling the passengers until they/we got to the airport). But, the airline put us up in a new five star hotel on the water so once we learned what the plan was, we really couldn’t see a downside! (Well, aside from the wake-up call at the hotel at midnight to leave at 1a.m. That was a little tough.) We had a couple days in Stone Town, a few nights in Nungwi, and then back in Stone Town (for our unexpected last night). We loved our time in Africa but definitely had a feeling of relief when we walked into Rome Fiumicino Airport.

Pictures below: Sights on our walking tour of Stone Town… We walked through a market that was bustling with people… it was fascinating and chaotic… The smells were intense–very overpowering. I was relieved to get to the fish market which smelled strongly of fish, but not fish gone bad, just fish. It’s not the best smell but was so much better than the smells of the fruits and meat that seemed a little past their prime.

How did I miss this?! Sorry for the ridiculous delay but thank you for the memories stirred up with your writings and pictures! Love you guys!
Love you too, Keira!! I’d be so curious to know how much it has (or hasn’t) changed in the past 15 years!
Seemingly not much from your beautiful pictures! Although 15 years ago sounds like forever ago!
I agree!! 😳
