Hoi An has been my favorite city in Vietnam. It was quite a breath of fresh air arriving there after having spent a few days in Nha Trang, which our friends likened to Vegas (tons of neon lights, rather gaudy, and a bit seedy). We’ve noticed a correlation between how touristy a place is and how good the food is (the more touristy, the worse the food)! Nha Trang is incredibly touristy (almost all Russian) and we had a really tough time finding good food, which tends to impact our enjoyment of a place. (Hoi An is also touristy but not nearly as much so…and the food was much better 🙂 ). We have some great memories from Nha Trang, including William’s birthday at Vinpearl Land and the day at the mud baths (Michael’s memories weren’t quite as good, having been sick most of our time there), but it was not a place we were particularly sad to move on from, which isn’t the case for most places!
Some pictures from around Hoi An:
Beautiful! Fun to see Holly, Oscar and Sophie!
Hi the Harthorn family! My husband and I took my in-laws to Ho An for four days and your pictures reminded me of the places we went. You’re so right that the food in Ho An tastes better than other major cities’ and I love the serene boat ride on the river. If you think you have some room for your suitcase, tailor made clothes would be the best buy and maybe you could ask them if they ship to the U.S. I remember I got my two dresses made of pure silk and the quality is still great after many years. Make sure you visit the Palace before you leave the city as you will learn a great deal about the history of Vietnam hundreds of years ago.
The colors are so striking in these pictures. It looks like Hoi An was all lit up for New Years.
These lanterns and pictures are beautiful! We’ve been reading your blog all along, and I figured it was time to actually comment. 🙂
