Granada & Alhambra

We spent a few days in Granada, even lengthening our stay by one night because we kept hearing about how amazing this city in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountains was. It was very picturesque and is home to Alhambra, a fortress-turned-palace whose construction started in the late 800s. Alhambra was home to the royal family of the Nasrid Dynasty, the last Muslim dynasty on the Iberian Peninsula before the Christians re-took over in the late 1400s. At this time, Alhambra became home to the first Spanish royal couple, Ferdinand and Isabella, and was then also the sight where royal endorsement and financing were given to Christopher Columbus for his expedition.

If ever you visit Alhambra, make sure not to walk in circles around these posts. The guards make it known rather aggressively that they do not like that!
