One of the most unique things I have eaten in Vietnam is egg coffee. It is a delicious drink with an egg custard poured at the bottom, coffee poured over it on top (or whichever drink you are adding to it), and cocoa powder dusted on the top. Throughout our stay in Vietnam, we have tried egg coffee, egg cinnamon coffee, egg hot and cold chocolate, and egg coke. The egg coke was by far the most interesting and unexpected. Like the rest of the egg drinks, it added a sweet and almost icing-like flavor! We got to visit Cafe Giang, the original egg coffee shop! Egg coffee started because there was a shortage of milk during the war. They began pouring condensed milk in the bottom of the cup, and pouring coffee over it. The condensed milk eventually became egg custard, like we have it today. Lastly, egg coffee was really delicious and I’m so glad I got to try it!
Great post, Sophie! I was so surprised by how yummy that egg coke was 🙂
We miss you guys!!

I love your post Sophie! Go banh mi 25!
Sophie, thank you for sharing your thoughts on egg coffee! I didn’t know how it started and I didn’t know there was such a thing as egg coke. I am not a coffee fan so I think I might like egg hot chocolate the best personally. I know you mentioned the egg coke was the most interesting, was it also your favorite? It sounds like you got to try several new things on your trip. Also, I am wondering what game you are all playing in the first picture of this post (where you are all sharing one egg coffee)?
Thank you again for taking the time to post.
Hi! The egg hot chocolate was my favorite! We were playing coup!
