Crickey!!! (Take Two)

Not only did we hear many Crickeys in England, we also ate lots of delicious food, and I went on many runs. So maybe this should be called Food and Running in England.

Anyways, one memorable lunch we had at Granddad and Zorka’s house was called Toad in the Hole. It was made by cooking thin sausages and topping them with caramelized onions. Then Yorkshire pudding batter was poured over and it cooked in the oven. We ate it with cooked carrots and some other “veg”, and I had a loooot of English Coleman’s Mustard along with it. With almost every lunch or dinner we had different variations of cooked carrots, green beans, cheesy cauliflower, peas, broccoli, potatoes, and Coleman’s Mustard. It was all very good, and to wash it all down, we would often have a dessert like blueberry cake squares and ice cream, or crème caramel with fruit. A meal was hardly ever eaten without a yummy drink to go with it. We had sparkling drinks including rose and raspberry, elderflower, apple, orangina, ginger beer, and pomegranate and lime. For breakfast, twice we had “pancakes”, which were more similar to crepes than American pancakes, with a topping of fruit, vanilla cream, and syrup, and a side of toast, bacon, and eggs. One day when we were eating out in Bury St. Edmonds, I had a full blown English afternoon tea. I had scones, tea, finger sandwiches, and even tiny little cakes. It was very tasty.

Every morning when I woke up, I would have a bowl of Crunchy Nut cereal and then go on a 4-8 mile run. We went to France for a few days with Grandad and Zorka before my dad, William, and Findlay arrived, and between England and France, I ran over 60 miles in two weeks! I got to know the English countryside surrounding Grandad and Zorka’s house very well! One morning, Grandad and Zorka’s friend Karen came over to run with me and Findlay, and we ran just over seven miles. She showed us a great loop and we got to talk a bit during our run. It was great! Although I am writing this from England, I miss running here already. I will also definitely miss the food here, and will miss having a sparkling drink every lunch and dinner. I can’t believe we are leaving so soon, but I am excited to go to Malta next!
