Biking and castle-hunting in the Loire Valley

After a couple nights in Avignon, we continued our journey north through France on August 4th and had a very long 8.5-hour drive to Tours for some time in the Loire Valley. We had a wonderful few days in Tours with three great activities: walking around Tours itself (which is really neat), driving around the Loire area looking at castles (there are dozens in the region), and riding bikes. The castles were spectacular to see. We visited one on our bikes (Chenonceau) and drove to another six in our car, which we had varying degrees of success being able to actually see…some of them are well-hidden from the road and others you can just walk right up to without any sort of entrance fee. Renting bikes was probably the highlight of our time in Tours. We went on a nice 15-mile trek, and even though Keegan fell 20 seconds into the ride (he was fine!) and even though the heat was stifling, we had a blast pedaling around and taking in the scenery from a different vantage point.
