Andorra

After leaving Barcelona on August 23rd, we had a 3-hour drive to the little country of Andorra, which is nestled in between Spain and France. At just 180 square miles, it is the 17th-smallest country in the world. We’ve seen quite a few small countries on our trip, including Vatican City (the #1 smallest), Monaco (#2), Liechtenstein (#6), and Singapore (#20). Even though Andorra is not that much smaller than Singapore, the land-locked nation only has about 80,000 residents compared to over 5.5 million in Singapore! They make up for it by welcoming an estimated 10 million tourists each year.

Andorra’s geography is really interesting as the whole country is in the rugged Pyrenees Mountains and the cities are all located in relatively narrow valleys between the ridges. It makes for a beautiful setting and in the summertime it’s known to offer some great hikes, which is what we did on our one full day there–the hike was called the Ruta del Ferro and was about 4.5-miles round trip. We picked a really flat hike this time to have a more leisurely stroll.

we really loved all the stone houses
Andorra was a masks-on-everywhere-while-in-public place, but our hike was pretty secluded so we were able to have a breather
