One thing about Greece that I love is that there are cats everywhere. Some are strays and some are house cats but you can usually not tell the difference. The strays are not like the scrawny Zanzibar stray cats. Most of the time they are well groomed and healthy-looking but of course sometimes there is a sick looking one or one that looks like it does not want to be your friend. My favorite cat that we pet was in Meteora in one of the monasteries. We found it resting in the shade and as we were petting it, it stood up and slowly crawled into my lap and plopped right down. I love the monastery cats!
The love of animals is such a gift, isn’t it?! It can be a blessing and a heartbreak – but I think we’re always better of than before when we’ve been loved by an animal.
