To start out one of our days in Slovenia, we hiked up to a beautiful roaring waterfall called Slap Savica. It was huge!! When we got back down to the bottom, a man at a table that we passed asked if we would like to buy some cheese and my mom thought he was asking if we would like to buy some walking cheese. Yes! Walking cheese, what is that?! It turned out he was asking if we would like to buy some Balkan cheese. We didn’t want to tell him we weren’t quite as excited to buy Balkan cheese as we were to buy walking cheese (which maybe doesn’t actually exist) so we bought it anyway and it was pretty good.
We then went to Vogel Mountain in Triglav National Park and took a cable car to the top. When we were up there, we climbed up a hill to ring a bell on a cross. Afterwards, we had pasta for lunch at the mountain lodge… It was not very good but it filled us up.
Lake Bohinj itself was pretty chilly but the air was very warm. My favorite part of our time there was probably going stand up paddle boarding on a paddle board that Dad rented. When it was William’s turn, I heard Dad tell him that he could get a store prize (a treat from a store) if he got a full extension of a head stand on the board. So, I swam out there, asked if I could try, and did it! It was pretty hard because it wasn’t very stable and I felt like I was going to fell back, but I got up there for about 6 to 10 seconds a few times! I loved it. (And I got a store prize!!!)
The final thing we did that day was walk through a valley with a waterfall at the end. It was a fairly long walk on a path alongside farms and houses. The waterfall was really powerful and incredibly fast. It was an unbelievably pretty place!
While we were in Bled, we got to try Bled cake, which is a delicious vanilla cream cake (named after Lake Bled) cut in a square with a thin flakey pastry at the top and bottom, vanilla custard/whipped cream in the middle, and powdered sugar on top. It is delicious!! We got it from a café called Confectionery Zima and the first day we tried it we got it for dinner, the next day for lunch, and the next for breakfast. It was so yummy and surprisingly filling!!
Wow Tate! When I saw the picture I thought it was just some random person doing a headstand. Impressive!! I’ve give you the prize, too.
Ha! That’s funny! Thank you!!
Tate, I know how challenging it must have been to do a handstand on a paddle board! I really enjoyed your post!!!
It was really hard! Thank you very much Mrs. Brown! Tell Mr. Brown and Zach I say hi!
Oh, how we are enjoying these amazing adventures and the beautiful photos! The boys are getting so tall!! I love the headstands by William and Tate! What incredible experiences you have had this past year! God has truly blessed you each step of the way! Thank you for sharing these great times, the photos of your family, the lovely landscapes, and the food! Just looking at the cream cake made me want to find a recipe for it!! I love the beauty of Slovenia! Godspeed and enjoy every day!
Thank you Mrs. Lynch for commenting! We miss you!
