Seven Hanging Valleys Trail, Lagos

Our last day in Lagos we decided to trade in the surf boards for hiking shoes and drove to the Seven Hanging Valleys trailhead. The hike is a seven-mile roundtrip out-and-back hike that follows the Algarve coastline along the southern Portuguese border. Due to some roadwork, the closest we could get to the trailhead was almost a mile away, so our seven-mile hike quickly became close to nine. Our main concern was water, but thankfully we had all our bottles full plus six extra liters in my backpack, which turned out to be just enough. The hike was so beautiful, overlooking amazing cliffs with blue and green water and sandy beaches.

One fun thing about this hike was that it wasn’t that well marked and there were a lot of spots where the way forward wasn’t clear, so there was an extra air of adventure trying to find the right way. The turnaround point was at a beach where Tate and Keegan took a quick dip in the ocean, but the waves were pretty big and crashing right on the beach, so we didn’t spend much time there. We returned to the car after 4.5 hours baking in the sun and rewarded ourselves with delicious burgers and fish tacos at a place called Nah Nah Bah back in Lagos. It was a great day!

a lot of the beaches we saw seemed pretty secluded, and it wasn’t always obvious how to even get to them
we caught a relatively calm moment on camera, but the waves were pretty rough here
