Pena Palace, a must see

From Lisbon, we took a day trip to Sintra to see Pena Palace, a palace whose construction was started in the Middle Ages and finished in the 1800s, as well as Quinta da Regaleira, a palace built in the early 1900s.

We’ve seen so many churches, museums, palaces, and castles during the past few months — I’d really felt like we’d reached our saturation point. But a good friend of mine, Melissa, whose husband is Portuguese, referred to visiting Sintra as a must, so we made the trip and were so glad we did! Pena Palace was unlike anything we’d ever seen. It was incredible — so colorful and beautifully designed!

Below is Cruz Alta where we hiked to to get a good view of the palace…because of some pretty tall trees getting a clean view required climbing up onto the cross monument:
