On our second full day in Bali, we woke up at 1:00 in the morning and got picked up by our driver, Yung, at 2:00 to go climb Mt Batur. We had a two hour drive to get to the mountain. The hike up to the top was long and a bit chilly for the first part (but probably still in the 70s). We had a really nice guide! Her name was Anni. She was so helpful to Keegan by holding his hand the whole way up and down (the path was really rocky and steep). She also cleaned up Mom’s cut on her hand when she fell. We were all almost all the way awake by the time we got to the top. Anni offered us sandwiches and we bought some hot chocolate to warm up. The sunrise was beautiful! Every 45 seconds it looked a little bit different than before. When we were about to go back down, a bunch of monkeys came out and accepted foods from the tourists up there! The walk back down was harder than it was going up. Most of the time we were half-sliding/half-walking, so we had to be really careful. When we got back to our villa, it felt like it would be almost 5:00 or 6:00pm but it was not even noon! I loved the hike even though it was really hard to do at 4 in the morning!
That was 10 days ago and I’m still tired! 🙂
That looks amazing!!! So cool that you saw monkeys!!
Yeah! It was great!
Wow-So stunningly beautiful!!! Looks like it was well worth the middle of the night wake up call!!
Yeah! It was!
What incredible pictures! I especially like the family shot in front of the sunrise! Thank you for sharing about this Findlay. In Hawaii on the island of Maui there is a volcano called Haleakala. You can drive all the way to the top but if you want to see the sunrise from the top you have to get up really early also. I have done it 3 times in my life. It is very cold on the top before the sun rises as it is at 10,000 feet. A couple of times I have then hikes into the crater and then hiked back out. What a cool experience for you to have.
Also, is Tegallalang Rice Terrace where you stayed? Blessings on you and your family!
Thanks Mrs. Hakkarainen! That sounds fun! It’s probably much colder over there! The Tegallalang rice terrace is a famous rice terrace that we stopped by on the way back to to our place in Seminyak
It looks amazing and having a great guide makes it even more special!
Thanks Mrs. Gathers! It was great!
