We stopped by a shop where we saw how guys painted and made sculptures out of wood. The boys got to try it as well. It was interesting but stressful because they were very persistent in wanting us to buy stuff (even after we said we wanted to buy a few things).
Some animals we saw the first day:
I loved reading your post!!!
Looks like so much fun! Can’t wait to see Dubai, Tanzania and zanzibar in few weeks!
You guys are going to have an amazing time! Watch out for the hungry lions 😁
Have a wonderful time! The safari was such a great experience.
I just love your photos! The ones from the wood shop were my favorite!
Amy
Thanks Amy!!
I love those animal photos!!! The elephants are so precious! We saw a couple of elephants at Taipei Zoo and SIngapore Zoo, but nothing is like this… a small group of elephants in a open field. Amazing!
It was really mind-blowing! I’d love to do another at some point. We were in such awe of all the animals!
Out of curiosity- the first picture shows that you guys covered your head and face for the safari. What’s the main reason for doing so?
We each had 2-3 long-sleeved sun shirts (shirts w/ UPF protection) for sun protection (and insect protection) as well as the Buffs that we wore around our necks (in the top picture the boys had the Buffs pulled up on their faces). Those were helpful for sun protection, insect protection (they come treated with permethrin), and to pull up around our mouths and noses in the car when it was really dusty (which was most of the time). It turned out that insects weren’t so much a problem aside from one evening when we were swarmed with tsetse flies. Those things are awful! Most of us were bit–and mostly through our clothing! The bites were painful!! Not lasting discomfort, but startlingly uncomfortable. Michael and William got some mosquito and spider bites but the rest of us didn’t get anything (aside from a tsetse bite or two). We loved having the sun shirts so we didn’t need to think much about sunscreen aside from on our faces (we’re all so fair).
Wow! That’s why you guys looked so “covered up” all over you! I think that I can related to your experience of being bit through our clothing. A few trips back to Singapore, I was bit through clothing and my body was so itchy and eventually the bites got swollen up and I had a hard time sleeping at night. I think the sun shirts are such a smart idea! I feel that I always learn something from your traveling experiences! Thank you!
Oh my! That’s tough having itchiness that feels inescapable even during the night!!
Anya, your photographs are simply stunning. And it is so entertaining to read everyone’s perspectives on the trip so far. Thanks for sharing the details and your memories!
Thanks so much, Diane!!
What an adventure!!
It really was very memorable!!
