Cruise — what fun! Onward to Iceland (23-24 June)…

Highlights and lowlights from our day of travel (23-24 June):

  • Arrived back in Florida and ready to get off of ship by about 6:30a.m.; said goodbye to Jim and Kay (Michael’s parents)
  • Picked up our rental car to take us back to the airport w/ stops along the way:
    • laundry (6 people x 8 days is a lot of clothes!)
    • a Target run (somehow one of our boys had grown out of his bathing suit already…)
    • a FedEx stop
    • Starbucks for breakfast
  • Flew together to JFK and then separated for our flights to Reykjavik (Michael, Findlay, and Keegan on one flight; me, William, and Tate on the other… made use of some airmiles so it worked out best this way)
  • Slightly stressful time at JFK wondering if we (William, Tate, and I) would make our flight on time… We had to change terminals and wait in a loooong line at security
  • 5 hr 20 min overnight flight to Reykjavik… William, Tate, and I slept for 1-2 hours at most
  • Met Michael, Findlay, and Keegan at airport; they landed 30 minutes after us; Keegan greeted me excitedly… the flap on his tongue (tongue scab?) fell off and his tongue appears to be fully healed!!  (Heard from our dermatologist back home; he thinks there was likely trauma to it and said to keep an eye on it but that it should be fine now.  Hallelujah!)
  • Took a shuttle to pick up our RV… arrived at the pick up site at 8.30a.m…. 30 minutes before they opened… BRR!  It’s cold outside.
Waiting to pick up our RV
  • HUGE temperature difference between FL/Caribbean and Iceland!!!
  • Michael drove us in the big RV on the small Icelandic roads with 1-2 hours of sleep to Reykjavik first to get coffee…then to Reykjavik Costco!  I was still freezing from our chilly morning but he was boiling from the stress
  • Did some shopping for the week… oh my, Iceland is expensive!  Diet time, boys!
Reykjavik Costco!
Tate is even more hilarious than usual on 1-2 hours of sleep
Happy reunion!
  • Found our good friend Trevor in the food court at Costco.  What’s he doing here?!?
  • (Kidding, we planned it; he’s meeting up with us a few times this year.)
  • Met up with our friends, the Tardifs, in the parking lot and our other friends, the Barretts, as well!!
  • Off to Geysir and Gulfoss!  Sleepy boys
  • Sleepy Michael, too…He was in a lot of exhaustion-pain driving to Geysir
  • We visited Geysir (all of the world’s spouting hot springs are named after Geysir in Iceland!) and Gulfoss (huge waterfall)
caravaning… being followed by Trevor, Tardifs, and Barretts
hot water and a clear, deep hole! (at Geysir)
