Bergen–More Like BURGERen

The entire flight to Norway was absolutely beautiful, and luckily for me, I got the window seat. As we were preparing for landing (which was 30 minutes after we took off since we were flying from Stockholm and the flight was so short), we started to fly closer and closer to the Norwegian mountains and fjords, until we landed in a cute little city called Bergen. It was suuuper nice having an apartment with what felt like tons of room, after staying in two itty bitty places in Sweden and Denmark. For those of you who are slightly confuzzled by the name of this post, and have never heard of Burgeren, it is a wonderful smash burger restaurant with an even more wonderful owner. He was a Bergen-bred Vietnamese guy who opened up this burger place with some friends and later met us, his biggest fans. The fries were amazing and the burgers were so flavorful!

In Bergen we got our very own personalized walking tour with Mr. Cox, who had been reading up on some Rick Steves. He knew his stuff! We walked through an old fortress, saw some statues of super old Norwegian kings, walked along the coast admiring boats, and ended in a fish market where I got a tasty gyro. Because that’s what you get when you go to a fish market! On our way to a coffee shop we met a Christian couple, super friendly people, who owned an art shop, where the wife painted the paintings and the husband helped sell them. Their English was nearly perfect, and after talking with them for a while, they prayed for us and bade us farewell!

Keegan and I did some nice running in Bergen, through some parks, filming parkour videos here and there. It was a pretty good spot to run in! There weren’t many parks or any running trails, so we had to do a lot of it in the streets, but there were very few people and cars. One night we nabbed a small snack at 3 Kroneren, a lovely hot dog place. They weren’t actually hot dogs, because they were made of sausage, beef, lamb, bratwurst, and even reindeer. And mom didn’t want us calling them hot dogs so she wouldn’t get grossed out, so I just called them farm dogs. I went with the smoked bratwurst, and it was tres tasty! Our last night here, we ate at your favorite burger spot and mine, Burgeren.

Bergenhus Fortress, from the 1200s!

Enjoying those tasty reindeer and other dogs

Picturesque part of the town known as Bryggen

At the top of a 2-mile hike to Floyen, we were greeted by surprise goats! One named Gucci kept giving Keegan hugs

Midway up the Floyen hike there was a pretty long slide that was great for kids and adults alike

More views from the Floyen hike, including birds-eye view of the city
