Asian Turkey!

Hello! Welcome to Turkey! Today we got coifs, took a ferry to the Asia side of Istanbul, had burgers over there for lunch, took a Bosphorus River Cruise!

The first part of the day was the coif part. We walked to this mall-ish-like place and one of the things inside was a barbers shop, which, as you might have guessed, was the place where we got the shave and haircuts (2 bits!). My dad got a shave and a haircut, but the rest of us just got haircuts. Anyways, all three of the barbers were super nice and the guy who cut my hair seemed really playful.

The next part was the Asia part. We took a ferry to Asia. When we got there, all of our bellies told us it was time for Turkish/Asian (Turkian) burgers! They were delicious and we got to admire the owners’ baby who was very young and strapped to her mom’s body.

When it was time for our river cruise, we went to the place the guide had told us to go and at the exact time, but he wasn’t there! Mom called him and learned that the guide had rescheduled it, and we were precisely one hour early (thank goodness not late)! He rescheduled it because the sun was setting later and he wanted us to see the sunset on the river. We got some candy at the Spice Bazaar, ate it, got some olives, ate those too, and waited for the guide.

When we were on the boat, we saw a bunch of mansions and palaces on the river. The people who live there have really good views of the Bosphorus, but most people keep their blinds closed because they don’t want the people on the boats seeing inside their homes!

Galata Tower, built as Christea Turris (“Tower of Christ”) in 1348. It was the tallest building in Constantinople at that time. Now it is a museum and a symbol of Istanbul and Beyoglu (a district of Istanbul where we stayed)
