We continued our whirlwind afternoon of temple-viewing by visiting Angkor Thom, famous for The Bayon, the stone towers with the smiling faces. The Bayon is in the heart of the ancient city of Angkor Thom… and Angkor Thom was the symbolic center of the Khmer Empire, which covered much of what today is Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, and southern Vietnam.
