We’ve been to a lot of country capitals in the past year and the most recent one was both the smallest capital we’ve seen and the hardest to pronounce just by looking at the spelling. Any guesses? Ljubljana! Say it ‘lyoo-blee-ana’. It’s a beautiful little city in Slovenia that was destroyed by an earthquake in 1895. After the earthquake architects began to rebuild and expand the city, a process that is now known as the ‘revival of Ljubljana’. Changes in architecture, tourism, and education followed. The city reminded me a lot of Fussen, a little town in Germany with a similar style of architecture and the same picturesque look. We really enjoyed our stay and found some amazing food, most notably a Mexican restaurant (owner/chef from Mexico!) with delicious tacos and Pop’s, with delicious burgers. We were so surprised to find amazing Mexican food in Ljubljana, of all places! This city definitely made it to a list of my favorite places.
