From Lisbon, we took a day trip to Sintra to see Pena Palace, a palace whose construction was started in the Middle Ages and finished in the 1800s, as well as Quinta da Regaleira, a palace built in the early 1900s.
We’ve seen so many churches, museums, palaces, and castles during the past few months — I’d really felt like we’d reached our saturation point. But a good friend of mine, Melissa, whose husband is Portuguese, referred to visiting Sintra as a must, so we made the trip and were so glad we did! Pena Palace was unlike anything we’d ever seen. It was incredible — so colorful and beautifully designed!
Below is Cruz Alta where we hiked to to get a good view of the palace…because of some pretty tall trees getting a clean view required climbing up onto the cross monument:
I’ve been waiting for this post. Wow! the palace is incredible and your pictures are spectacular, as usual. I am wondering who used Pena Palace? So fun to see these pictures! Blessings on you and your family!
Thanks Darcy!! I think a king built it and it was intended to be used as a summer home for the Portuguese royal family!
Colorful indeed! Love the stone work.
Ricardo and I love these pictures. Ricardo especially was enjoying your photography and how they bring back many memories for him! So glad you have enjoyed your time there.
Thanks Melissa and Ricardo, that’s really nice to hear! Portugal was such a highlight!!
