Shakespeare

“I’m in a pickle,” “For goodness’ sake,” and “Vanished into thin air” all originate from the great William Shakespeare. On Monday, I had the amazing experience of visiting Shakespeare’s birthplace and burial site. Shakespeare was born into a family of four boys, just like me, and, also like me, was given the amazing name “William”. It was a really weird and cool feeling knowing that the floor I was walking on (an original wooden beam from 1530 that went through the house and the stone floor) was the same floor that Shakespeare walked on four hundred years ago.

Shakespeare was born in 1564 and died in 1616. He and his wife, Anne Hathaway, preordered a burial in front of the Holy Altar at what is now the Holy Trinity Church. At the church, I saw a large list of English kings and queens, each with a description. Quite a few of these people I had learned about in my history class with Mr Higley, so it was fun to connect the descriptions to what I had learned. England has so much rich history that is really fun to learn about!
