The Corfu airport’s landing strip is pretty much just an extension of the beach. And this landing strip is also the runway. It’s a very small airport!
So, a little while ago, someone had the bright idea of building a bridge over the water a couple hundred meters from the landing point, so that people could watch planes takeoff and land overhead. (Or maybe the bridge came first and the airport was built so that people landing could watch people standing on the bridge. I’m not sure about the order of events.) We took a quick bus ride to this spot and were amazed to see this firsthand. It’s really only when a plane is barreling directly overhead that you can really appreciate its raw power and mass! The noise, too, is deafening at such proximity. I’d definitely recommend this unique Corfuian attraction.
